Angel Investing is Oceangate's earliest-stage program — curated pre-seed and Series A opportunities in the companies we believe have the strongest chance of becoming the next generation of category leaders. Historically the very best returns in modern venture capital have come from the earliest checks written into eventual breakout winners, and this program is designed to give accredited investors disciplined access to that stage.
We source deals through a proprietary network of founders, operators and repeat entrepreneurs. Every year we review well over a thousand opportunities and syndicate only 8–12 to our members. Every deal we forward is one where an experienced lead investor has already priced the round, negotiated protective terms and completed technical, commercial and legal diligence.
Our own team layers additional diligence on top — reference calls with customers and prior employers, product deep-dives, market-size validation and pricing benchmark analysis — before a single dollar is committed. The result is a deal flow that has been filtered through two independent institutional-grade filters, not curated by an algorithm.
Investments are made through a single-purpose LLC per deal: you hold an interest in the LLC, the LLC holds preferred stock in the operating company. This structure keeps the cap table clean for the founders and gives you the same economic and information rights the lead investor enjoys.
Portfolio construction matters more than deal-picking at this stage. Venture returns follow a power law — a very small number of investments drive the vast majority of the return of any successful portfolio. We recommend clients target 15–25 deals over 2–3 years to reach the diversification level where the mathematics of venture actually work in your favour.
This program is designed for accredited investors who can allocate 5–15% of their investable net worth to venture, operators and executives who value optionality and asymmetric upside, and long-horizon investors who fully understand that most individual deals will fail and are comfortable holding illiquid positions for 7–10 years or longer.
